Here we go again…delving back into reality today with interesting statistics pertaining to the search for love. Here are today’s statistics:
Did you know that…
44% of the adult American population is single. That’s over 100 million people folks, so your odds are actually much better than you think.
On average, there are 86 single men to every 100 single women in America. So, the odds are slightly in favor of men finding a mate. This ratio is a bit better in the Southwest, and in warmer climates such as Texas, Florida, and California, the ratio in some cities actually favors the women.
50% of New York state adults are unmarried, making it the best state for single people. Washington, D.C. actually boasts a 70% single rate, making it the best area (although not a state) for single people. (I can vouch for this statistic!) The states with the worst ratios are Idaho and Utah, with 40% and 41% single, respectively.
You have 15 minutes to make a first impression – if you’re a woman, that is. If you’re a man, you have a little more cushion. Women usually take about an hour to decide if you’re going to have a second date.
Interesting stuff…right?
Question of the day: Would you relocate your life to have better odds at meeting “the one”?

Sounds like they are using unmarried and single as synonymous. Sorry to rain on the parade but I wonder what percentage of those are actually available singles?
You make a good point — checked box data doesn’t really allow for relationship ‘shades of gray.’ I’m “survey single” (as in unmarried and would mark single on a census sheet) but have been in a relationship with the same person for a couple of years…
It’s also worth noting that ~ 1/3 of that 100 million are in the lower age bracket of 18-29, with the highest numbers between ~18-24. So… anyone not looking to date in the teen or twenty-something’s pool can cut that # by ~30 million.

44% of Adult Americans are single? I dont feel so bad now…But then again, shouldn’t all the single people hold some sort of pow-wow and get together instead of wandering the streets aimlessly?
Where are the single men ? I notice that as I grow older, the window of opportunity becomes smaller. The cute ones that I see now at school are first years…. aaaargh. All the older cute ones are taken…. well, of course I’m talking of the cute ones. The rest are aplenty. lol
Absolutely Not

I need to share this with my neighbor–she’s searching. Have you seen how Ohio compares in the “single” scene? 🙂
